Smart move.

The start of the 12th day and my NaNo word count hovers around 4000. I keep thinking I’ll have a brainstorm, but may just soon give into the temptation of stealing your story here – telling people that I have other, viable projects that demand my attention.

I think the thing stopping me is all the trouble it would take to then write false blog entries to cover my lie. That alone sounds more tiring then the truth.

Hey, at least you’re making it out to meetings. Not that I would ever do that myself (hanging out with other writers often makes me nervous) but it shows a level of dedication to NaNoWriMo that I find inspiring.

As for the other thing, most of the entries I write are ‘false’ and it’s as tiring as you imagine but it’s the only method I’ve got to dig out the truth.

oday is day 11 of this year’s NaNoWriMo and I’m officially dropping out. I’m proud to announce this because I am not abandoning it due to any sort of failure but because I’ve actually got two new writing projects which might actually see publication. Neither of them are fiction, however, but that’s all right. One of them is a very concise introduction to Buddhism and the other is work on a book for a gaming company. Neither of them may ever see the light of day but it’s enough for me to put aside NaNoWriMo for this year, focus on these projects and, soon, return to Mila and the park story.

Actually, my dedication to Mila’s story after so much time has passed tells me that it’s something I’m likely to finish. I’ve got one half of the book in a shape that doesn’t make me want to sit in the dark and cry. But the other half of the book? It’s an awful mess. In fact, I shouldn’t even say ‘half’ seeing as the final act of the book doesn’t really exist at all at least not in any form recognizable by people. But I haven’t given up on it. I’ll finish it and I hope to have it finished by next year. Maybe I’ll set a deadline for October 31st. Just in time for NaNoWriMo 2006.
